Independent Reading Review.
I read the book "Crank" by Ellen Hopkins, this is a book all about a girl Kristina/Bree that encounters the drug. I've been wanting to read all of Ellen Hopkins books for a while but never really got to it until Dr. P started the independent reading books. I love books that I can relate too and even if fiction, they are based on things that can happen to myself or someone around me. The story in this book can happen to anyone and everyone, I really enjoy seeing things through Kristina and/or Bree. This book was especially interesting to me because she doesn't start as a "druggie" and I feel that the author did a great job of writing through the character's eyes, usually the teens doing drugs in books have a bad reputation when in reality there's always a back story. In this story specifically it's just a girl that has divorced parents and in efforts to reunite with her father she ends up meeting the monster, meaning crank/crystal meth. I won't give away too much but it's a slightly real story about the author's daughter while she was going through her addict past. The only thing is that the book reads a bit funny in the way that it's typed up so don't be afraid of the thickness of the book itself. It's a great book in my opinion and would definitely recommend it as I'm going to read the following book by Hopkins.
