Summary/Update:
This week I read 98 pages. I split my total pages into thirds so I could read them by week. It's roughly 98 pages, this week it ended perfect on 98 which was perfect. So I read up to chapter 16 and stopped at 17. So far I've learned who a lot of the characters are, because they're all pretty important. Huck is a poor white boy, that up to now has a drunken abusive father and a very religious Widow and Widow's sister looking out for him. He runs away and finds Jim, who was the Widow's slave, but left because he was going to be sold. They are now out surviving and trying to stay low at an island but manage to go back on shore for certain "needs".
Questions:
- How exactly did the whole robber's boat situation play out? Huck says Widow would approve of him helping the robbers but they didn't make it? I got very lost during this part.
- I was a bit confused on the other book made before this, mentioned at the beginning, and whether i should've read it or not but I realized I don't. I was wondering though, would it have been good to read it too?
- One last question that just came to mind is what the laws were like back then, because Widow is trying to get custody of Huck and they can't so what were the laws in this time period for custody and slavery as well. I think I'm just hazy on time period.
Prediction:
I have a feeling that Huck or Jim is going to get caught, I think it's unlikely for both of them to be caught because the book would have a huge turn of events since there's huge things on the lines for both but that's just my opinion. They seem a little careless to me now, I mean the first time Huck went on shore he dressed as a girl and now he went up to the guard like nothing had happened, a bit confusing.
